Project Associate Job Vacancy at IOM Kigoma September 2026

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is recruiting a Project Associate to support the RE2CLID – Resilience and Climate-Induced Displacement Programme in Kigoma Region, Tanzania.

The programme, funded by the European Union, supports governments, communities and partners in the Lake Tanganyika basin to address climate- and disaster-related displacement through preparedness, coordination, community-driven recovery, resilience and longer-term solutions.

The Project Associate will provide programme support in areas including project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, stakeholder coordination, policy and research, capacity building, learning and knowledge management, and the organization of trainings, workshops, consultations and meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing and monitoring project activities.
  • Retrieve, compile, summarize, analyze and present project-related information and data.
  • Monitor budgets, verify availability of funds, obtain approvals and update budget information.
  • Coordinate administrative activities and liaise with internal units and external stakeholders.
  • Draft status reports, identify implementation gaps and recommend remedial actions.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables and presentations.
  • Respond to information requests and maintain project files and records.
  • Organize meetings, workshops and training sessions.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences involving local authorities, partners, UN agencies, NGOs, donors and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor the work of Implementing Partners and report non-compliance to the supervisor.
  • Provide guidance and training to new or junior staff.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

Candidates should have either:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Disaster Management, Development Studies, Disaster Risk Reduction, Community Development, Social Sciences, or a related field with three years of relevant professional experience; or
  • A High School diploma with five years of relevant professional experience.

Required Experience

  • Experience liaising with government authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies and NGOs.
  • Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking or other vulnerable groups.
  • Previous experience with international humanitarian organizations, NGOs or government institutions in a multicultural setting is an advantage.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong field coordination and stakeholder liaison skills.
  • Knowledge of climate-action project design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of durable solutions and Disaster Risk Management, including livelihood and infrastructure interventions.
  • Knowledge of budget proposal development and budget management.
  • Quantitative and qualitative data collection skills.
  • Knowledge of survey design and field data collection methodologies.
  • Familiarity with KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, CommCare or similar mobile data collection platforms.
  • Data cleaning, validation and quality assurance skills.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili, both oral and written, is required.
  • Language proficiency may be assessed through written and/or oral assessments.
