BRAC Maendeleo Tanzania is part of a leading international development organization that began its operations in Tanzania in 2006. The organization focuses on key thematic areas including agriculture, youth and women empowerment, food security, and sustainable livelihoods.
In partnership with The Mastercard Foundation, BRAC International is implementing a large-scale initiative aimed at creating a positive and measurable impact for approximately 1.2 million adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), as well as 9.5 million people across seven African countries — Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The initiative responds to the growing need to support adolescent girls and young women living in poverty, a challenge that became even more critical following the global pandemic. Through community-based and scalable economic empowerment programs, the partnership seeks to strengthen the agency, voice, and opportunities available to AGYW. The program enables young women to pursue their aspirations, secure sustainable livelihoods, and actively participate in advocacy and social development issues within their communities.
BRAC International applies an integrated and holistic approach designed to support young women through different stages of life. The model ensures that girls transition safely from adolescence into adulthood while gaining essential life skills, vocational training, financial literacy, and access to financial services. Through these interventions, young women are empowered to make informed decisions, exercise their independence, and build productive and fulfilling futures.
