Geita Gold Mine Limited (GGML) is Tanzania’s largest gold producer, operating a major gold mining project in the Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold mining corporation headquartered in Denver, USA, with operations across more than ten countries on four continents.
The mine is located within the renowned Lake Victoria Goldfields in northwestern Tanzania, approximately 120 kilometers from Mwanza City and about 20 kilometers southeast of Lake Victoria. GGML’s primary operations and administrative offices are based in Geita, around 5 kilometers west of Geita Town, while the company also maintains a support office in Dar es Salaam.
Over the years, Geita Gold Mine Limited has earned significant recognition for its outstanding contribution to Tanzania’s mining sector. The company was awarded the title of Overall Best Performer in the Mining Sector by the Government of Tanzania for the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 financial years. In 2018, it was also recognized by the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) as the best employer in the country.
