Accountant/Administrator Job Vacancy at LVIA Tanzania, Pemba September 2026

Lay Volunteers International Association (LVIA) is an Italian NGO working in ten African countries, including Tanzania. LVIA has its headquarters in Cuneo, Italy, while its Tanzania offices are located in Kongwa District, Dodoma Region (P.O. Box 160, Kongwa).

LVIA has been working in Tanzania for more than 30 years, supporting community development, particularly in agriculture, health, and improving access to potable water and hygiene.

The Context

LVIA is looking for an Accountant to be employed within the EU-funded project “Kijani Pemba – Strengthening Urban Eco-Resilience in Chake Chake and Mkoani”, as well as to support future LVIA projects funded by different donors.

The projects aim to promote sustainable and inclusive development at community level, in close collaboration with Local Authorities and other relevant institutional and civil society stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and Country Representative, the Accountant will be responsible for the following duties:

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Oversee the financial management and reporting of the project in collaboration with the Project Coordinator, under the supervision of the Country Administrator in Dodoma and headquarters in Italy.

Accounting and Day-to-Day Operations

  • Perform daily accounting tasks, including booking entries, issuing cheques, processing bank transfers, and conducting monthly bank and cash reconciliations.
  • Keep the LVIA accounting software updated and verify monthly balances.

Payroll, Taxes and HR Support

  • Manage monthly payroll for LVIA staff.
  • Ensure timely payment of taxes and insurance.
  • Track staff annual leave.

Procurement and Contract Management

  • Collect and analyze accounting documentation.
  • Manage on-site tenders, procurements and purchases.
  • Supervise all procurement procedures to ensure they are properly documented and fully compliant with EU PRAG (Practical Guide to Contract Procedures for EU External Actions) guidelines.

Partner and Grant Verification

  • Review accounting documents from partner organizations and grant beneficiaries to ensure eligibility, accuracy and full compliance with LVIA and donor requirements.

Audit Preparation and Support

  • Organize and prepare all necessary documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Coordinate with auditors and project staff.
  • Manage follow-ups on audit requests and findings.

Task and Project Management

  • Utilize project management software, such as ClickUp, to assign tasks, track progress, store supporting documentation and monitor deadlines to ensure timely completion of financial and administrative activities.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance or an equivalent field, and CPA Holder.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience as an Accountant, Finance Officer or in a related position, including supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience with international NGOs and donor-funded projects.
  • Proven experience in preparing budgets, compiling and analyzing data, and preparing financial reports.
  • Experience supporting international projects funded by different donors.
  • Knowledge of local laws, codes and regulations in both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar Archipelago.
  • Proficiency in English and proven ability to write official reports and documents in English and Kiswahili.
  • Computer literacy and advanced Excel skills.

The employee is expected to maintain a high degree of flexibility and adaptability to possible modifications and/or additions to the foreseen duties based on needs that may arise locally.

The employee is also expected to integrate their work within the wider context of LVIA’s presence in Tanzania in order to facilitate consistency and continuity among current and prospective projects.

The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple and competing priorities, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of performance and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant courses or certificates.
  • Knowledge of various accounting tools, including NPS and others.
  • Valid motorcycle riding permit.

Selection Process

As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake a written and oral test in person.

The date, time and venue of the written test will be communicated directly to candidates selected to proceed to the second stage of the selection process.
